Holiday Luggage
Holiday season is close and with that comes lugging heavy loads around with us! Try and remember to look after your body when moving and lifting luggage. It is easy to strain your back, shoulder, neck and other areas when not thinking about what you need to move, where you are moving it and if you can manage it. Here are some simple bits of advice to consider:
– Wheels –whether they are inbuilt into the luggage or a luggage trolley at an airport, use them!
– Avoid lifting items that are too heavy for you and ask someone to help you if available
– Bend your knees and keep your back straight if you need to lift something
– Keep items close to your waist when lifting or even the load between your two arms if carrying a few items
– Don’t twist when carrying a heavy load, especially when the back is bent forward
– Be careful lifting luggage into overhead lockers. Bend your knees and use the momentum as you straighten them to help raise the luggage over your head

Don’t forget that osteopathy can be effective in relieving aches and pains following lifting heavy luggage and pop in to see us if necessary!
