Drink up! Health Benefits of Water
Water makes up about two thirds of our body weight. Its role in good cell function, transport of nutrients through the blood and removal of waste from the body make it an important factor to health and well-being. Water also helps maintain the health and mobility of our joints and can help to keep skin clear, reduce fatigue and improve concentration.
We lose water through the day via sweat, breathing and toileting so it is important that we replace what is lost to stay hydrated. Whilst drinking too much water can be bad for you, the correct amount to drink can depend on your size and weight, how active you are and your body temperature. The current recommendation is to drink 1.2 litres of water a day.
Water can be drank in its purest form but it is also available in the food we eat, fruit juices, squashes and even tea and coffee (although the caffeine in these can cause increased urination and therefore loss of water).
